Sellers description:
Price SOLD
1958 Jaguar XK 150 SE Fixed Head Coupe, 4 Speed Manual, 3.4 litre straight six, 37779 miles, Chassis Number S824476. This wonderful Jaguar XK 150 SE FHC was built on 9 June 1958 and was registered new in December of that year by Henlys of London for land speed record breaker Donald Campbell.
Ordered with some very special factory options including Koni shock absorbers, Cinturato tyres, free flow cylinder head, D Type cams, high compression cylinder head, overdrive on all gears, E Type clutch, safety belts and Derrington steering wheel.
Campbell used the car from 1958 till around mid 1963 which was looked after by his long term mechanic Leo Villa. Included in the history file is a lovely handwritten letter from him confirming this. Famously photographed alongside Bluebird in a publicity shot at Aix Le Bains on the Lac de Bourget in France. A wonderful story that accompanies the car is that Campbell at one stage took the engine out of the car and installed it in a boat in his quest for speed!
Subject to a chassis off restoration in the late 1990's to a high standard, this important piece of British motoring history has just come out of long term (30 Years) ownership and is ready for its next custodian.

Surely not a "high compression cylinder head"? Probably just had 9:1 pistons.
Also, "overdrive on all gears" cannot be true, as the torque multiplication in the lower gears would have wrecked the gearbox in very short order.
But a very desirable purchase with that mileage and provenance.
