The Best Driving XK 150 On The Market! Two California Owners from New

This car is not currently located at Fantasy Junction.

    1958 Jaguar XK150 Drophead Coupe
    s/n S837016, Engine no. 15768
British Racing Green with Green Leather Interior

The recipient of a thoughtful and comprehensive restoration, this car is stunning. It has also been mechanically upgraded in key areas to improve its drivability and usability, and is absolutely ready to be enjoyed.

Originally sold to a woman from Burlingame, California on the 15th of May 1958, this car has had just thre owners from new. The second owner purchased the car from her in November of 1971 for $1500 and has kept it in the San Francisco area or Northern California since then. Fantasy Junction sold this car to the current owner in 2006. Thus, this car is a true three-owner California car still wearing black plates.

During 2001 and 2002, the car received a full cosmetic and mechanical restoration. There are over $85,000 in receipts included for the renewal of the engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, electrics, body, interior, and countless other items. During this time, the transmission was replaced with a more modern 5-speed unit, and numerous electrical upgrades were performed. It has been fitted with a new gear reduction starter, electric fan, and alternator conversion. The car has also been fitted with a ZF rack and pinion power steering conversion. All of the original parts, save the transmission, are included.

Since the restoration, the car has seen only minimal use and remains stunning to behold and drive. The driving experience is truly outstanding, and it is with no reservation that we assert that this is one of the finest driving examples on the market today.

Cosmetically, the car is also exceptional. The paintwork is of extremely high quality and shows no deterioration or noticeable imperfections, aside from a less than 1cm scratch on the right rear fender. The chrome is also excellent, including the wheels and interior trim. The tires appear to be recent and are Firestone radials with a period-correct look. All badges, glass, lights, and lenses are excellent as well.

The interior is also first-rate. The wood, leather, gauges, knobs etc. are all in fantastic shape, and the bill for the interior alone was over $13,000. The steering wheel is a Moto-Lita item and the car has also been fitted with seat belts. The trunk is also very nice. It has been reupholstered in the correct material and also comes with the jack.

The car also comes with numerous period documents including service voucher, original guarantee certificate, dealer directory, and very cool Jaguar-Dunlop pamphlet explaining the advantages of disc brakes (complete with Stirling Moss testimonial). Also included are documents pertaining to the restoration, and the bill of sale from 1971.

This car truly represents and outstanding example of the XK series. As a DHC, it is more practical than a roadster, since it has a more substantial top, handy quarter windows, and occasional rear seats. It is an attractive color and is in beautiful condition, and most importantly, it drives well. The upgrades greatly enhance the driving experience without being intrusive, and the well-established California ownership history is beyond reproach.

I checked the eBay reference shown by Pauls above, to see what the final price was but the auction must have been stopped as there is no trace of that reference.
