Ebay item 6/14/06 cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-XK-140-Drophead-Convertible-C-Type-1956-Jaguar-XK ...
Current bid $20,100 reserve not met, 4 bids, 6 days left in auction. 101k miles.
Sellers description:
This car was restored about 20 years ago, and was enjoyed on the road until it spun a bearing in the mid 1990's. The engine was
pulled and a rebuild began but was never finished. The owner got busy running a business and the car sat.
As it stands now (purchased this year by Fast Cars of California) the engine and transmission are bolted in, but the engine
innards are still out, needing rebuild. The head was not taken apart, nor was the transmission. Pistons and connecting rods are
nicely wrapped. The crank will need to be turned.
This XK140 was originally equipped with dual exhaust, wire wheels and the C-Type head, which makes it the most desirable engine/chassis configuration (MC or SE as it was also called). This is a photo of the original Factory stamped data plate. This is a matching numbers car. It has the "C" casting in the spark plug valley. It retains the components it was born with - fairly rare for a 50 year old car.
It has the original and correct "Type C" cam covers.
The seats were done years ago in correct leather. They are intact with no tears, they just need some hide food and TLC. The top frame is intact. A new black cloth top comes with the car, including a sewn headliner. The trunk is properly done with the correct mat. The spare tire well is solid and rust free. Most of the chrome is excellent. It is all nice and straight. There are a couple of minor pits in the front bumpers.
The paint is showing it's age. It would shine well with a buff, but has a lot of chips and some checking in spots.
With some touch up it would be OK for a driver level car. On close inspection, it appears that the car was red originally. Wheels are painted wires, and have older bias ply tires. The body is nice and straight. It has never been in an accident, and the panels line up pretty well. All of the exterior body panels appear to be original. The right sill looks like it has been replaced at one time. The left sill is original and has never been rusted.
