This 1954 Jaguar XK120 is an SE-specification left-hand-drive Drophead coupe that was built in March 1954 and dispatched to Hornburg Jaguar of Los Angeles, California, in April of that year. The car is said to have been refurbished after it was acquired by the seller’s father in 1984, and it is finished in green over tan leather upholstery. Power is provided by a 3.4-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a tan convertible top, twin SU carburetors, a 12-volt electrical system, and 16″ center-lock wire wheels. This XK120 is now offered with service records, a Jaguar tool kit, a knock-off hammer, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, and a clean California title in the name of the seller’s family trust.

The car was finished in Battleship Grey from the factory and was repainted to green under previous ownership. Features include fender-mounted mirrors, a chrome split front bumper, roll-down side windows with opening quarter-lights, rear bumperettes, chrome-tipped exhaust outlets, and a replacement tan convertible top with a matching boot cover.

Chrome 16″ wire wheels secured by two-eared center-lock nuts wear Universal Sport tires, and a spare with a Pirelli tire is stowed under a shelf in the trunk. Braking is provided by four-wheel drums.

The cockpit features seats upholstered in tan leather joined by matching door panels and lap belts, brown carpets, and a burl wood dashboard, door caps, and window trim. Additional appointments include a three-spoke wood-rim steering wheel, a wood shift knob, and a lockable glovebox.

Centrally-situated Smiths instrumentation consists of a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep tachometer with a 5,200-rpm redline, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level as well as a Lucas ammeter. The five-digit odometer shows 20k miles, approximately 6,500 of which were added by the seller. True mileage is unknown.

The 3.4-liter inline-six is equipped with a pair of SU carburetors and a 12-volt negative-ground electrical system. The battery and engine oil were changed in 2022.

A receipt from July 1987 indicates that the cylinder head was removed and replaced during a timing chain service. Cylinder head number LA6038-9 shown above corresponds to a 3.8-liter engine from a 1959 or later Mark II.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate lists factory serial numbers and colors, a manufacture date of March 10th, 1954, dispatch to the US in April of that year, and distribution through Hornburg Jaguar of Los Angles, California.

The engine block is stamped F 2362-8S, and F23628S is listed as the VIN on the California title accompanying the car. The manufacturer’s data plate is shown in the gallery and lists the chassis number as S678205, which matches that shown on the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate.

A tool kit is included in the sale along with service records dating back to 1984.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
