Auction description:
Sale 17263 - Collectors' Motor Cars, Motorcycles and Automobilia, 18 Nov 2009
Yorkshire Event Centre, Harrogate
Lot No: 431
1955 Jaguar XK140 Roadster
Registration no. 360 XUV
Chassis no. A811934DN

Sold for £43,300 inclusive of Buyer's Premium

Originally a left-hand drive model exported to the USA, this XK140 roadster has formed part of the current owner's private collection of Jaguar motor cars for the past 12 years. The car has been converted to right-hand drive configuration and benefits from extensive refurbishment carried out while in the vendor's care. These works have included refurbishing the original wheels; completely overhauling the braking system and front suspension; re-coring the original radiator; totally rewiring the electrics; and stripping and repainting the boot area. In addition, the engine was taken out and the cylinder head removed and overhauled before being reinstalled, while Burlen Fuel Systems reconditioned the carburettors. The original Moss gearbox has been replaced with a more user-friendly all-synchromesh Jaguar XJ6 Series II unit, retaining the original bell housing and clutch mechanism. New parts fitted include the fuel tank, stainless steel exhaust system and tonneau cover, the latter sourced from specialist coach-trimmers, Suffolk & Turley.
Presented in generally good condition, the car is offered with a quantity of expired MoTs, Jaguar-Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, current road fund licence, Swansea V5 and MoT to September 2010. The original Moss gearbox is included in the sale.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
