Car to be at auction 1/23

    www.mecum.com/lots/FL0123-545410/1958-jaguar-xk150-s-roadster/

    Auction description:

    Lot K154 Kissimmee 2023 Jan 4-15

    Chassis No. S830875DN

    3.4L DOHC inline 6-cylinder engine

4-speed manual gearbox with electric overdrive

    Lucas electrical system

    Nardi wood-rimmed steering wheel

Finished in Red with Tan leather upholstery and carpets

    Chrome knock-off wire wheels

    Front and rear bumper guards

Part of the Rick Grant Collection since 2013

The S prefix on this left-hand drive 1958 Jaguar XK150 S roadster, which has been part of the Rick Grant Collection since 2013, denotes the SE triple-carb spec, with this car’s triple SU carburettors featuring polished alloy dashpots. Chassis No. S830875DN’s DN suffix denotes the electric overdrive that effectively added a fifth gear to the 4-speed manual transmission to make for more relaxed high-speed cruising. Another SE identifier is the gold-painted cylinder head seen on this car. Though externally the only visible indications are the discrete chrome S letters on each door top, they certainly speak volumes.

With a much revised and roomier cabin than the preceding XK140, the new XK150 was also technically superior, with better steering and 4-wheel servo-assisted disc brakes to rein it in. Here, that interior features tan leather upholstery and carpets, as well as Smiths instrumentation behind a Nardi wood-rimmed steering wheel, with Dunlop 4-wheel disc brakes supplying the stopping power.

With its wind-up windows, wraparound curved windshield and well-appointed cabin with padded dash, the last-of-line XK150 S was also best of breed and a world apart from the spartan XK120 roadster that had started the ball rolling so spectacularly in 1948. With the XK150 S roadster, Jaguar ensured the XK line went out on a high note, and this 1958 Jaguar XK150 S Roadster from the Rick Grant Collection shows there isn’t a much better way for Jaguar enthusiasts to complete their own XK odysseys.

    Sold at $143,000.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
