    This Car

The subject of an impressive 2007 restoration, this striking XK120 Fixed Head Coupe bears testimony to the early XK's claim as one of the most influential sports cars of all time. No other body style captured the purity of Sir William Lyon's design like the fixed head coupe, which added roll-up windows and a more luxuriously appointed interior to the preceding roadster's amenities.

According to this handsome XK120's certificate of authenticity issued by the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust, the car was dispatched from the Jaguar works on June 23, 1952, about one month after the build began. Equipped as a left-hand-drive example, 679724 was finished in silver metallic over a red leather interior and was delivered new to distributor Jorge Barranco in Mexico City for delivery to its first owner. Although the interim history remains unknown, the car was acquired in the mid-2000s by Julio Cesar Basin, a collector based in Mexico. This Jaguar was treated to a restoration in 2007 that included a refinish in the period color scheme of Pastel Green over a two-tone interior of green and biscuit leather.

This handsome XK was presented in April 2007 at the prestigious Gran Concurso Internacional de Elegancia in Mexico City, where the car was awarded Best in Show in a field of some 300 worthy competitors. In addition to claiming top honors among all cars, the XK120 simultaneously drew a First in Class award from the JCNA, one of whose judges was so delighted with the car that he soon arranged a purchase. Importing the Jaguar to his home in San Diego, California, the new owner offered the car for sale at Pebble Beach in August 2008.

Purchased then by the consignor, a discerning collector based in Northern California, the XK120 was serviced as needed by Ed Wright of British Car Garage in local San Rafael. The receipts from this period of Mr. Wright's care are included in a file of documents that accompanies the sale, in addition to an owner's manual and set of tools.

Transported only for occasional private showings in the Marin and Napa areas, this arresting XK120 Fixed Head Coupe was recently evaluated and prepared by Kevin Kay Restorations of Redding, California. It is poised for exhibition glory at finer concours and JCNA events, or to be cared for by the enthusiast who appreciates the design aesthetic of Jaguar's stylish sporting coupe.
