    Ebay item 12/30/13

    www.ebay.com/itm/Jaguar-XK-XK120-SE-1954-jaguar-xk-120-se-roadster-gorgeous-rest ...

Current bid $30,200 reserve not met, 11 bids 9 days left in auction. Santa Barbara, California

    Sellers description:

Offered for sale is an exceptionally clean, well sorted and beautiful 1954 Jaguar XK120 SE Open Two Seater (OTS), finished in timeless and wonderfully era-specific Old English White over Green leather with a matching green canvas soft top. Just out of the William Young collection in Seattle following more than 30 years of ownership, the car has been fully gone through mechanically and is ready to enjoy.

William Young has been a significant collector for the last 40 years and while his collection has included cars as notable as the ex-Constance Bennett 1933 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Special Town Car by Brewster (now valued at $3M+), Jaguars were always his true passion and we were fortunate enough to have acquired three of his XK120 Roadsters and his Mark V Drophead Coupe. A JCNA regional president for many years, Mr. Young always bought only the most honest examples and kept them exceptionally well maintained, as evidenced by this car's fantastic condition.

The recipient of a high quality restoration 25-year-old restoration, the car presents nearly as well as it did following its completion, at which point it was high scoring in JCNA shows. The factory correct Old English White paint is not without its blemishes, but as the pictures exhibit, they are few, far between and completely insignificant in terms of taking away from the car's overall appeal, which is substantial. The body is entirely straight, without any evidence of bondo or accident repair and the panel fit is consistent with even gaps all around. The brightwork is in excellent shape, as are both the rubber and glass, and the painted knock-off wire wheels are wrapped in wide white wall tires with plenty of remaining tread.

The green leather interior is in equally as clean condition, appearing virtually untouched. The seats show only the most negligible amount of wear and the same is true of the carpets and interior panels. The canvas soft top is as new and the car has never been subjected to the elements, evidenced by the untainted, rust-free undercarriage. This is an entirely pure, correct and honest car, one that needs only a new owner's garage and the same doting care that its received for the last 30+ years.

Mechanically the car is fantastic, its 3.4L engine firing up effortlessly, idling consistently and pulling strongly and smoothly through each of the original Moss gearbox's gears. A factory Special Equipment model, the dual exhaust has been updated with an exceptional stainless system that emits a note that this nothing if not grin-inducing. Performance accompanies with excellent, even compression and fantastic ride quality. The car brakes straight and true, the suspension is sound and the car is a joy on the road, whether tooling through town, roaring through the canyons or bombing down the highway. Strong mechanicals and in beautiful cosmetic condition.

    VIN 674551

This Jaguar XK120 OTS (Open Two-Seater) is a classic British roadster which was previously restored.

It is powered by a twin-carburetted 3.4-litre inline-six with ‘Type C’ cylinder heads, delivering a reported 210PS to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.

This XK120 was originally delivered to Los Angeles, USA, before later being exported to Switzerland, where it is now offered for sale.

It has been with the seller for the last 10 years, during which time several components have been replaced.

Originally specified in Suede Green with a matching Suede Green interior and a French Grey soft top, this example has since been refinished in cream with a green soft top over a green leather-trimmed cabin.

It rides on a set of 16-inch wire wheels, fitted with whitewall Diagonal tyres.

Equipment includes twin exhausts, a four-spoke banjo-style steering wheel, door pockets, and a folding soft top.

Accompanying the sale is the owner’s handbook, Heritage certificate, FIVA registration, the original American title, previous sale advert, original starter motor, the original seatbacks and bolt on windows for driver and passenger, a book on the XK120, and the spare wheel.

Work carried out during current ownership:

Thermostatically controlled engine fan to avoid overheating in traffic

High-torque starter motor to improve starting

    New ceramic exhaust headers

    New front suspension bushes

New front and rear shock absorbers

    Rebuilt tachometer

    Replaced steering wheel

    New bucket seat backs

New front and rear chrome bumpers

    New headlights

    Rebalanced wheels with spokes replaced

    Gearbox rebuilt

    CONDITION

Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition.

Specific notes from the seller include: a bent ‘lip’ under the front bumper, a blemish on the driver’s seat, cracks in the top of the Plexiglas rear window and cracks in paint around rear boot handle. Several of the stainless steel spokes that were replaced have not been painted in the grey colour of the wire rims.

The seller also states that there is a slight leak from the steering box.

    SERVICE HISTORY

The car was last serviced in August 2024 at an indicated 42,000 miles by the seller, who greased the relevant points and replaced the engine oil and filter.

The seller, who is a mechanical engineer, has carried out oil services every two years during his 10-year ownership.

The engine pan seal, fan belt, and exhaust manifold seals have also been renewed, and the suspension geometry has been adjusted.
