Lot 409 - 1952 Jaguar XK120 Roadster
Estimate: £55,000 - £70,000
Registration Number: EU Registered
Chassis Number: 672973
We are pleased to offer today a very late example, dating from the final year of production, which has undertaken even more ocean travel than most other XKs. It was sold new in the USA and stayed there for several decades until it was repatriated in the 1980s.
On its return to these shores it underwent a considerable amount of very high-quality restoration work, which included rebuilding the car to right hand drive specification, though after some years' use the car changed hands once more, this time passing into the ownership of the celebrated John Lasseter, the director of the massively successful 'Toy Story' movies and now of many other Pixar hits. He re-exported the car to California and kept there it for some years, before reluctantly parting with it, at which point the car crossed the Atlantic again!
The car has just undergone some recommissioning work at the premises of the well-known London authority Bob Thredder, of which details can be found in the car's history file.
The livery wisely chosen when the was returned to the UK the first time was of course the traditional and highly suitable British Racing Green, which remains in most pleasing condition and has clearly been the result of very careful use and maintenance, with the interior trimmed in a contrasting and very sympathetic shade of Biscuit hide, including the dashboard.
The car retains all its weather equipment, hood and sidescreens, in black vinyl, and retains all the correct and highly distinctive exterior trim and brightwork.

car as per pictures jumped from RHD to LHD, a long work !
the brass/black identification plate is clearly new.
The chromed side light housings should end in September 1952, the car is an October 1952, but who can say ?
What really shows its Heritage Certificate ?
Coys says a "very late example" : surely not, production till 1954 !

Good Point. The chassis number can say: this is 1952 Oct and production of this model ended in 1954 August

Ebay item 2/16/23
Car has a buy it now pride of $119,800 for 6 days, car now in Phoenix, Arizona, seller classicpromenade, 492 miles stated.
Seller's description:
This is a gorgeous, numbers-matching 1952 Jaguar XK120 OTS ("Open Two-Seater"). It is finished in iconic British Racing Green paint over an Old Biscuit colored leather interior and has undergone a total body-off restoration. This legendary Jaguar is stunning in person and looks as though it has just rolled off the assembly line in Coventry. Perhaps as important, this is a tour ready Jaguar needing nothing to be enjoyed. We have applied for the Jaguar/Daimler Heritage Certificate for this car and will be updating the information on earlier history once it is known. On June 8, 2003, this car was acquired by a Jaguar specialist in Scottsdale, Arizona where the aforementioned body-off restoration took place. This painstaking process of body off, nut and bolt restoration took three full years to complete. The result is excellent. In August of 2006, the Jaguar went on to a large classic car collection in Baberton, Ohio where it was proudly displayed until March 19, 2010, when John Tulloch acquired it. Mr. Tulloch is an avid car collector and enthusiast based in both Illinois and Arizona. He enjoyed this Jaguar on tours through Arizona, always finding it as reliable as it is gorgeous. The British Racing Green livery on this car is in excellent condition with very few minor blemishes. In direct sunlight, it shines beautifully and has the wonderful deep luster that this color is known for. The chrome trim pieces are in wonderful condition (as to be expected after such a restoration) and highlight the details of this beautiful car. This example also comes with its black canvas convertible top and side curtains that look great and are easy to attach. There are some expected scratches on the side insert windows due to storage. The split-windshield creates a cool, period-correct look to an already sexy car and creates an undistorted, commanding view of the road ahead. The "Old Biscuit leather interior is in overall excellent condition. The leather is soft and supple and is complimented with deep, soft matching carpets. The light and elegant looking interior creates a stunning contrast to the more understated exterior. The factory steering wheel comes complete with the original Jaguar logo encased in an orb that immediately demands your attention while every other touch point, such as the gear lever and hand brake, work well with excellent engagement feel. The 3.4 liter inline-six starts right up hot or cold and idles smoothly. The bellowing, deep growl that these engines are so revered for is omnipresent and it is particularly amplified higher in the rev range. Delivering 160 hp complimented with excellent midrange torque, it is an absolute joy to drive. There is an inherent, awesome mechanical feel to this car that needs to be experienced. The four-speed transmission engages into every gear easily and faithfully, and clutch operation is exceptionally smooth and progressive. At speed, this Jaguar is stable and confident making the 120-mph top speed claim by Jaguar themselves (hence XK120) easily believable. This car comes with the factory Black canvas top, side curtains, and tan canvas tonneau covers as well as a custom ordered car cover. It is also complete with the factory toolkit, jack, crowbar, and spare tire. Additionally, this Jaguar will come with a large file of service receipts, an original owners handbook and the forthcoming Jaguar Heritage Certificate. Hagerty currently has No. 1 values at $169,000 and No. 2 values at $145,000, with the NADA value at $169,000.
