Vor 17 Jahren wurde dieser sehr frühe XK 120 von seiner Besitzerin in der U.S.A. auf einer Auktion ersteigert um sich zum 40´ten Geburtstag ein Geschenk aus dem Geburtsjahr zu machen. Der Wagen präsentiert sich immer noch in einem wunderschönen Zustand und ist sofort einsatzbereit.

What Nick says above is mostly correct. I purchased the car from Bill Niemeyer in Cincinnati in 1976 and undertook a complete restoration. It had been painted in a horrible metallic purple with cowboy style rawhide vinyl but was otherwise completely original. Bill indicated that George Walther of Dayton Wire Wheels and father of racer Salt Walther was the original owner. Conversations with prior owners supported this. I did a body off resto between 1976 and 1985 while moving from Ohio to California. Best in Class was awarded in '85 in Orange County CA. Then we moved to northern CA and won further awards in Palo Alto. I entered the car for sale at the Rick Cole Auction during the Pebble Beach Concours week in 1992 and it sold for well over reserve. The auction company did not provide any info on who bough it but many years later I tracked down the current owner Mark Schauenberg and was able to provide detailed documentation of the restoration and provenance of the car. Marc provided me with a copy of a story that featured my former car in the April/May 1996 edition of "Auto Welt"
I can confirm that the body number is F1920 and I was the one who first contacted JDHT for confirmation of all numbers.

Regarding the decision to have it painted Cream with Biscuit and Red Interior. My research indicated that it was originally Bronze/Biscuit and I spent a good deal of energy and time obtaining the original Bronze paint code. After trial sprays I determined that 1950's metallic paint was really faded looking and not the best example of the XK-120 heritage. I researched all 1950 color combinations and obtained samples of Cream and decided that that was how the car best could be presented. Auto Interiors of England provided the proper Biscuit and Red leather and Wilton red carpets. No expense was spared to faithfully re-establish show room condition in authentic livery.
