This car is really rather special! It is mentioned in a letter to the Jaguar Driver magazine February 1995 (p.20) as belonging to Alex DARLING of Barkway near Royston Hertfordshire UK and was said to have been owned by one family since new in 1953. In addition the mileage was stated as only 16,000. There is a photo of the car and the registration appears to be HXK 34(?) Colour was red.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
